Why is my old video still playing after I replaced it?
Description: Understand why updated videos might not appear immediately and how to force your new video to show.
The Issue
You recently deleted a video from a Scene and uploaded a new one, but when you check your live website, the old video is still playing.
The Issue
You recently deleted a video from a Scene and uploaded a new one, but when you check your live website, the old video is still playing.
Why does this happen?
To ensure your videos load instantly and don't slow down your Shopify store, ReelTok uses a global Content Delivery Network (AWS CloudFront CDN).
This network saves (caches) a copy of your video on servers all around the world. According to our system, this cache is flushed every 24 hours.
If you upload a new video with the exact same filename as the old one, the system might think it's the same file and continue showing the cached version to your customers.
The Solution (How to fix it instantly)
You do not need to wait 24 hours for the cache to clear! To force the new video to appear immediately, you have two options:
Option 1: Rename the file (Recommended) Before uploading your new video to ReelTok, simply change the filename on your computer.
Example: Change
summer_promo.mp4tosummer_promo_v2.mp4.When you upload the renamed file, the system recognizes it as a brand-new asset and will display it instantly.
Option 2: Create a new Scene Instead of swapping the video file inside an existing Scene:
Delete the entire old Scene from your Journey.
Click Create Scene to make a fresh one.
Upload your new video and tag your products.
Click Publish.
