Why did my videos disappear after updating my Shopify Theme?

The Issue

You recently updated your Shopify theme to a newer version, or you published a brand new theme. When you check your live website, all of your ReelTok videos and widgets are missing.

Are my videos deleted?

No, your videos are perfectly safe! All of your uploaded videos, product tags, and configured Journeys are still securely saved in your ReelTok account.

Why did they disappear?

This happens because of how Shopify handles theme architectures. When you update or change a theme, Shopify creates a completely fresh set of code.

According to our developer specifications, app blocks and theme extensions do not automatically transition between themes. This is a standard Shopify behavior for all apps, not just ReelTok.

How to get your videos back (The Fix)

To make your widgets appear on the new theme, you simply need to reinsert the ReelTok App Block into your page layouts.

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin.

  2. Navigate to Online Store > Themes.

  3. On your current active theme, click Customize.

  4. Navigate to the page or template where you want your videos (e.g., the Homepage or Default Product Page).

  5. Click Add Section or Add Block.

  6. Select the ReelTok widget from the Apps tab.

  7. Add the Journey id

  8. Click Save.

Your Journeys will instantly reappear exactly as you left them!
